Due to popular demand, our Creative Music Program is back – starting on October 14th, 2017!
What is the Creative Music Program?
For many young music students, the prospects of improvising or composing can be extremely intimidating. This is especially the case for the music student conditioned to formal conservatory style education with its heavy emphasis on memory and sight reading.
These group music classes focus on fostering creative practices that emphasize collaborative music-making. The classes will look at: improvisation; playing by ear; approaches to ensemble playing; and composition. These classes are modelled after a national music education research program which was concerned with fostering life-long music engagement in young music learners. Through the classes, students will be encouraged to cultivate agency within their own music education and practice.
