Music theory is an integral part of music education. Understanding music notation is the foundation of playing an instrument with precision. Music theory not only complements and enhances practical studies, but also stimulates development and a greater understanding of music.
The following theory courses are offered at Jean Lyons School of Music: Rudiments, Harmony, Keyboard Harmony, History, Counterpoint and Analysis.
Our courses are open to all students studying music and wanting to further their musical education.
During the school year, terms run from September – December and January – May to coincide with the RCM theory exams. Theory courses are offered through both classes and private lessons.
During the summer, intensive courses are offered for the RCM August exam session.
