Music theory is an integral part of music education because understanding musical notation is the foundation of playing an instrument with precision. Not only does it complement and enhance practical studies, music theory also stimulates development and a greater understanding of music.
The following theory classes are offered at Jean Lyons School of Music: Rudiments, Harmony, Keyboard Harmony, History, Counterpoint and Analysis, as a class or as private lessons.
Our classes are open to all students studying music and wanting to further their musical education.
During the school year, terms run from September – December and January – May to coincide with the RCM theory exams. Intensive courses are offered in the summer for the RCM August exam session.
