Private lessons are offered for students of all ages and ability levels, and are focused on accommodating individual needs and expectations. The pace of lessons is driven by the student’s ability and desire to learn. We meet the individual needs of each student, matching the student’s comfort level to the most appropriate instructor. Study material and procedures vary according to the individual teacher’s preference but usually includes technical exercises, studies and compositions by a variety of composers.
Our School offers private instruction in both classical piano and
pop / rock / jazz piano.
Private Lessons offered using the Suzuki Method
The Suzuki method is recognized throughout the world as a highly successful educational method of music instruction. It is often referred to as the “mother-tongue method” as children trained in this method learn to play the same way they learn to speak – by listening and imitation, repetition and receiving praise and encouragement in a positive learning environment (at home and in class). An early beginning and home support help make music a part of your child’s daily life.
The Suzuki program relies strongly on the cooperative relationship between teacher, parent and student to create a successful learning experience for the child and for parents to create a supportive, affectionate and encouraging music environment for their child at home. Parental participation is integral and involves:
- playing recorded repertoire at home on a daily basis.
- providing a quality acoustic instrument.
- learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument (it is not necessary for the parents to have a music background).
- attending each lesson with the student, taking notes or recording the lessons and practicing daily with the student at home.
- creating a supportive, affectionate and encouraging musical environment for the child.
Pop / Rock / Jazz: Making the Music of Today
Instructor: Victor Noriega
Do you love music? Do you wish you had taken more lessons in your earlier years? Is there a piano or keyboard that’s been collecting dust at your home for way too long? Are you a young music student looking to dig deeper? Or perhaps you’re an amateur musician looking to go pro?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then “Pop/Rock/Jazz: Making the Music of Today” could be the perfect course for you!
Learn the quintessential skills of today’s modern musician, including improvisation, applying theory to real music-making situations, developing a good feel/chops for every genre, and making music (jamming!) with others.
Here are some very kind words from a student of Victor Noriega’s:
“I feel so fortunate that the Jean Lyons School secured Victor Noriega to provide jazz piano lessons. He has reinvigorated my love of music study, and advanced my technical knowledge and confidence to improvise. His thoughtful approach to what I needed was clearly evident, week-to-week, as he sought ways to help me build from what I had learned before, but move forward in a meaningful way. Victor’s temperament is so very suited to music pedagogy since he nudges his students forward and demands excellence, but always in a way that is gentle and mindful of what it is like to be in the student role.” – D. Rehorick
Music is waiting to be made…by you!
