Enrichment Classes

Enrichment Classes

Jean Lyons School of Music conducts enrichment classes to enhance the musical knowledge of pupils and create companionship in these efforts.

PIANO ENSEMBLE PROGRAM is for students of all ages who have reached the minimum level of RCM Grade 4. Students are paired with a partner of the same level, and coached by a teacher. The goal is to either perform in recitals and competitions (weekly lessons), or to simply enjoy music-making with friends (bi-weekly lessons), following in the footsteps of our international prize-winning ensemble, Lyons Quatuor Piano. Discover the pleasures of collaborating with other pianists, whether for concerts, competitions, or just fun music-making! Please consult your private teacher for further information and fees.

MASTERCLASSES are arranged throughout the year with various teachers and nationally renowned professional artists. These classes are generally intended for students taking higher-grade exams and diplomas or preparing for major competitions. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from watching their peers and to allow music professionals to pass on their knowledge and their experience to future generations. Check for upcoming Masterclasses on our School News page or our Calendar of Events.

SCHOOL CONTESTS – The School arranges special contests from time to time. For our most recent Composition Contest, Canadian Composer Lorna Paterson was the judge. She assessed students’ works and provided invaluable instruction and suggestions for improvement. Our “Musical Fitness” Contests help prepare students for the technical aspects of RCM examinations.  They also serve as our own form of musical participation. Stay tuned for upcoming school contests or check our Calendar of Events!
